AlphaOne

The AlphaONE was first conceived over 3 years ago. About 2 years ago a test group was enlisted to help with testing and give feed back. In two years of testing "0" negative comments were recieved. Some of the test group were new pond owners and many were previous owners of different types of bead filters. The responses were unanimous: "We love it!"

What makes it different from a bead filter?

It can go for greatly extended times before flow slows down. There have been reports of people going for a month (with only a 2.5 model) with no slow down in flow or rise in pressure of the AlphaONE unit. (we do not advocate going for a month before backwashing, the best thing for your fish and your water quality is to backwash the filter often and remove the debris before it breaks down biologically.)

How does it work?

To answer this you have to understand the difference between bead filters and how they trap solids and how the AlphaONE accomplishes this task. Bead filters trap solids in the first few inches of the bead pac (causing clogging, flow disruption and pressure rises in the vessel) while the AlphaONE with its uniquely designed AlphaBioONE media stops the debris evenly through out the pac (resulting in greater flow, less head loss or back pressure, less maintenance.)

The polishing ability of the filter is one of it's most desirable features, based upon comments that have come into us from the field. The AlphaBioONE media was specially designed for this filter and this filter only. It is not something borrowed from another industry and used in the filter. Its design is unique in that it was not designed with "cross hairs" as some other specialty types of media use. We left those out because in a static bed the "cross hairs" can collect and hold debris until it becomes anaerobic. With the AlphaBioONE media there are no hidden areas for anaerobic bacteria, to harbor and stagnate, only beneficial bacteria. Take a look at the AlphaBioONE media and you'll see for yourself.

AquaBead

All of the AquaBead filters utilize the AquaSwirl internal Vortex spinning design that spins heavier solids to the center of the bottom of the vessel. Why do we want to spin the solids to the center of the vessel? Our goal is to have a filter that doesn't load up with solids. When a filter "loads up" it ceases to perform at its peak. Our goal then is to spin the heavier solids to the center where a calm area exists.

The solids wait there until the operator opens the AquaBead Sludge Drain Valve. This is opened with the pump running, which causes the solids to be purged out to waste under pressure from the pump. This unique feature of the AquaBead enables it be an extremely efficient filter, because an efficient filter doesn't hold solids, it gets rid of them. Opening the valve for just a few seconds is all that is needed. The specially chosen union ball valve is designed so that in a few years should the ball valve seize up, it can easily be removed and cleaned or just replace the worn parts. No need to get out the hacksaw and start cutting with the AquaBead. We have designed it to provide customer satisfaction not only when new, but down the road when servicing is needed.

Bead filters are close to perfect, some more than others, but one problem no one has addressed until now is, how to keep the bacteria alive in the filter in case you need to do a medical bypass or in case your pump should fail you. The AquaBead conquers this dilemma with the AquaBead Life Support System. This life support system known as "ALISS" will keep the bacteria alive indefinitely. On the front of the multiport valve is a special one way valve that will allow air in, but keep water from seeping out. With the water pump shut down, just slip an airline from your koi pond air pump onto the barbed fitting on the front of the Multiport valve and life giving oxygen is pumped into the tank for the bacteria to survive, while the beads are gently being tumbled within the filter to make sure all of the bacteria get a "breath of fresh air". This eliminates the need to have to "cycle" the filter again. Another AquaBead 1st.

Another item that shows long range customer satisfaction commitment is the Clear Union Spring Check Valve located right under the blower. If you will notice the spring check valve is a large 2" unit for maximum flow and has unions built into the valve. Why is this special? If you should ever have to replace the spring check valve, it is no big deal. Just unscrew the top and bottom of the valve, remove the valve body, replace with a new body and re-hand tighten the two unions. Total time- maybe 2 minutes. No frustration with getting out the hacksaw again. One more example of our commitment to provide you with a long lasting frustration free unit, not just the short term, but the long term as well.

The AquaBead Bead Agitator is a dynamo powerhouse of air output. What does it do? During normal running of the filter the beneficial bacteria causes the beads to be sticky (that's good). In the normal running of the filter algae and other solids combine with the sticky beads to try and form a "glue" that glues the beads together. At the same time the algae and other solids combine and grow larger as time goes by. To properly get them out of the filter when it is backwashed, we need to break this bead "pac" apart and pulverize the solids to a small size again so we can backwash them out of the filter. That's the job of the AquaBead Bead Agitator. When you kick this 1 horsepower powerhouse into action, humongous amounts of air are injected at the bottom of the filter where the air then rises and as it does "breaks apart the bead pac", thus allowing for a good back wash to be engaged at this point. What goes on inside is a violent rushing of air into the vessel breaking apart the bead pac, but not so hard as to disrupt the beneficial bacteria growing on the beads.

The AquaBead filters were designed to be the most energy efficient filters on the market. How? Inside is more than double the lateral surface area, where the upper beads gather around the slots in the lateral arms, than that used on any other filter. Couple this with the highest flow multiport valve on the market and you have a filter that was designed to be energy efficient. By implementing these design characteristics the filter can save the end user hundreds of dollars a year in energy costs. A smaller more energy efficient pump can be used to handle ponds that would normally have to have larger energy "hog" pumps to turn the pond over at the suggested rates. Why do we care, we're not paying the electric bill? We are committed to doing our part to conserve our natural resources. In our operation we recycle everything we can to hold down costs and do our part for the environment.

One of the things about the AquaBead that you are sure to love is the fact that, if you should ever need to gain access to the internals of the filter, it's no big deal. The filter comes with a special wrench that fits over the top cap and allows you to unscrew the cap and gain access. Did you notice I did not say to "unhook your plumbing"? With some bead filters who use top mount valves it is necessary to unhook the plumbing to get inside. Not fun. We knew you wouldn't like this, so we didn't use a top mount design.

Let's take a look at the body of the filter. It is made of fiberglass. It costs us more than plastic and is better than plastic. We only wanted to use the best. It is rated at 50 psi.

What about the Guarantee? LifeTime with a few minor exclusions. That's right, not 10 years prorated or non-prorated. LifeTime. Check out the Warranty Page.

Now, with all these great features and long term quality standard features it has to cost more, you're thinking. Wrong. The AquaBeads are priced sensibly. We strive to keep our overhead low and make these filters available to most pondkeepers at sensible prices. That was our goal, every option would be standard equipment and priced sensibly and below the competition. We succeeded. Take the time to compare and you'll choose AquaBead.

BioTek

Finally a low cost, high performance filter with all of the quality and dependability you have come to expect from GCTek. Just take a look at these features:

The BIOTEK media is so unique, there is no other exactly like it. Designed to protect sensitive beneficial bacteria during backwash, while providing huge amounts of surface area for the bacteria to live and prosper.

The BIOTEK filter utilizes a totally unique backwashing jetting system we call the "FLUFF-N-SPIN" system. Not only does the internal design of the filter allow for a "FLUFFING" of the media during backwash, but spins the bed and each individual piece of the BIOTEK media. This causes the media to get rid of any old bio floc that might be clinging to each piece, while holding on to the precious beneficial bacteria with in the filter. There is no other like it. Due to the "FLUFF-N-SPIN" agitation system and the design of the media, these units backwash beautifully using any low amperage koi pond pump.

  • Two speed pumps are not necessary with the BIOTEK filter.
  • Higher quality Fiberglass tanks at plastic filter prices.
  • Complete with 6 position Multiport valve that allows you to backwash, bypass to waste, bypass to recirculate, rinse. You can even use this filter to vacuum out your pond with the addition of a vacuum hose to your pump.
  • Same LifeTime warranty as the AquaBead and AlphaONE line of filters.
  • No clogging or channeling, with normal backwashing.
  • Performs both Biological and Mechanical filtering in one easy to care for unit.
  • Each BIOTEK unit comes complete with 2" unions for quick, easy installation.
  • Water drains on each unit.
  • Includes easy to read pressure gauge that tells you in an instant when the filter is dirty and needs backwashing.
  • Easy to see sight glass to tell you when backwashing is done. Unbelievably sensible pricing. The most value for your dollar on the market.
